Keep Bacteria Off Your Mouth To Help Avoid Costly Periodontal Surgery
Brushing and flossing teeth done properly can help remove plaque. However, when plaque is left stuck on the surface of the teeth, it will harden into tartar and must be scraped away by your dentist, a good reason to have teeth cleaned through professional cleaning every six months. Bacteria will spread below the gumline if tartar is not removed, contributing to a more advance infection in the gums; necessitating costly, expensive and extensive periodontal surgery such as pocket reduction. Periodontist is the one who performs pocket reduction procedures. Usually the periodontist firsts administers an antimicrobial treatment to kill off bacteria – the prime cause of gum disease. Remember that the formation of dental pockets and other gum problems are avoided easily with the practice of good oral hygiene and seeing the dentist in a regular basis for regular check ups.
