Discrepancy between social and biological time

The lifestyle of today's society with increasingly irregular working hours and constant presence deviates increasingly from the rhythms from the internal clock. If they tick differently than it everyday job and commitments require is a kind of jet lag situation. This reduces the efficiency and can help health burden. Because who always changing times must work, whether as a nurse or in the catering, lives in constant discrepancy between biological and social time. Another example is the transition from summer to winter time: The time shift disrupts the internal clock and can the human bio-rhythms from the stroke temporarily bring. Even the exchange between the rhythm of life on weekends and work days can trigger jet lag. The reason: People have different individual internal processes and day so that different preferences for timing sleep and activity periods. In the population, there are various types of so-called chrono: Some people are "owls" - they have difficulty to get up early, but tired late. Who on the other hand, "larks", is the early morning fit and active, but go to sleep sooner. In Central Europe tend to be the Owls in the majority. "Due to the large differences in Chronotyp it can in people with normal working hours to a chronic jet lag-social situation," illustrates Roenneberg. The main social effects of jet lag are lack of sleep and physiological stress, which means the internal clock calibrated bodily functions come from the rhythm.
